Base for vintage bed?

A customer asked

Im hoping you can advise us on a bed base and mattress.

We are looking to buy a super kingsize vintage french bed, but its missing the original base.

It has been suggested that we could have slats or a fixed base made to measure.

I would like to consider a sprung base + mattress and would like to know if this would be possible.

Im 5'2 + weight 10 1/2 stone, my partner.

Is 6'2 + weight 13 1/2 stone.

Our budget for a mattress would be around £1000 but I cannot find advice regarding the bed base.

the base would need to be a approx 6-8 inches deep.

Im not keen on latex or memory foam as i find them very warm.

Hoping you can help Regards Ally >

Hi Ally.

I can't foresee any problems providing you with a base that will fit into and be suitable for your bed.

Initially I would like to see some photographs to determine the style and I am assuming at this point that your bed is in the Lit Bateau range where either the base sits directly on the floor with the frame as a surround or, it could be where the shallow base sits on a support edge of the ground.Eitherway not a problem and will not be overly expensive.

As a secondary bit of information, I would be inclined not to go down the slat route. The feel of your intended mattress will be far superior if you can partner it with a sprung edged base.

Please forward julie (julie@localhost) some images - internal images and external images, with details of any internal support brackets.

John and Ryan.
