Mattress firmness
My husband and I are short-less then 5ft 8 and light 8 stone and 11 stone. My husband has recently had a muscular back ache. What type and firmness of mattress would you recommend.
Good afternoon and thank you for your question.
It used to be advised that if you had a bad back, then you needed a firm mattress but this is not always the case. A mattress should give you the correct support together with comfort. If you are looking for a pocket sprung mattress, then please see below two mattresses which I would recommend you look at:-
In our Origins range of mattresses, I would recommend that you have a look at our Origins Comfort 1000. This mattress has man made fillings and is the softest mattress that we make in the Origins Range but it is not particularly one that you will sink into and at your body weights is more likely to give you an overall medium feel. It comes with a medium spring tension which is more than enough to support you both.
If you would prefer a mattress that has natural fillings, I would recommend that you look at our Artisan Naturals. This mattress is one of the most popular mattresses that we sell. It has 85% natural fillings and a medium comfort layer, so not too soft nor too firm, and we can tweak the spring tension to suit your body weights. At 8st, we would normally recommend a soft spring tension but if you have had your mattress for many years, it probably came with a medium spring tension as it was very rare to find a soft sprung mattress. I would, therefore, recommend an overall medium spring tension which will give you both good support.
I hope the above is of assistance to you, but should you require any information, please do not hesitate to telephone me on 0161 437 4419.
Kind regards Julie
