Best mattress for 12st wife and 19st husband in King size
Can you please tell me the options available to us (most suitable entry level matress and best option if no budget restraints) and why they are the best options? We sleep on a medium 1400 pocket spring by Staples that we have had for 7 years but are both suffering aches and pains in the mornings. We would like a luxurious feeling bed that gives us the support but has a softer sinking feel top layer. We always get a better night sleep when we stay at a hotel so figure it must be the mattress causing our problems. Ideally we would lie a one piece mattress instead of a zip and link as we worry that we would feel the ridge where they join as we often invade each others side of the bed.
Hi Chris,
It seems to me that the mattress you have at present being a medium is too soft for you, which will result in aches and pains. In addition, the fact that you tend to utilise each other's side of the bed, it is entirely possible that the upholstery has become compressed over time, meaning that your wife will also suffer from the aches and pains.
The weight differential of 7st is too great for you to have the same tension across the whole of the mattress, in fact, you fall within the firm spring tension bracket and your wife is definitely a medium. In the Origins range or entry level as you refer to it, the Origins Pocket 1500 can be made with one half having 2000 spring for the firmer feel and the other half having the standard 1500 springs. Unfortunately, in this range, a split such as described is only available in a zip and link set. Having said that, in the ten years plus that we have been selling such products, no one has complained about feeling the zips. If this is a concern, the application of a good quality mattress protector should eliminate any chance of feeling the zips. This product is the only one in this range which can be made with such a split in the springs.

Alternatively, if budget is not an obstacle, the products in our Artisan range are available in a split spring tension one piece mattress. Please view the Artisan Bespoke 004, which I would suggest you opt for a medium firm split. The most popular mattress in the Artisan range is the Artisan Naturals, however, this only has 85% natural fibres in the upholstery, whereas the Artisan Bespoke 004 contains 100% natural upholstery layers. If you have any further queries after viewing these products, please call our office.
