I am looking for a new mattress as my current one gives me backpain, and would be grateful for which of your mattresses you would recommend.
I currently have a La Romantica Milan (pocket spring). This was advertised as “medium” but I find it relatively soft (and I wonder whether the softness causes the pain). I have to admit that it lies on a base with slates and enormous gaps between them (I read somewhere that that’s bad and that putting it on hardboard is better).
Previously I had a La Romantica All Seasons (pocket+latex on one side), which I loved but which I used mainly with the springs/" title="pocket spring">pocket spring side facing up.
My questions are:
- Should I go for medium or medium/firm? As I said, the LR Milan feels too soft for me, but it strikes me as softer than other “medium” mattresses I have come across. I weigh 66 kilos and am 177 cm tall.
- Is it possible to get a mattress from you that is latex on one side and pocket spring on the other? That way I could try out both.
Thank you very much for any advice you may have.

Hi Kai,

With your particular body weight, you would be best suited to a medium spring tension mattress. Most pocket sprung latex mattresses are one sided with the spring unit being on the bottom and the latex layer at the top upon which you sleep. These are not designed to be used the other way up, which is the way you used the All Seasons product.

Our Origins Pocket Latex 1500 has two layers of Talalay Latex on top of pocket springs which gives a medium support which is correct for your body weight.  The Latex layer is there to give you the comfort and would give you a medium to firm feel.

If you intend to continue using the slatted base, I would recommend that you place a barrier, usually thin (3-5mm) MDF, between the mattress and the slats. This will make any mattress feel slightly firmer, but will prevent ridging occurring as a result of the mattress dipping into the gaps between the slats.

Whilst our Origins Pocket Latex has pocket springs topped with latex, this is a one sided product and is not made to be used the other way up. It appears that you are actually unsure as to what type of mattress to opt for, pocket sprung or latex and for this reason I would suggest that you call our office on 0161 437 4419 to obtain more specific advice as to the suitability of one of our products for you.

Kind regards Julie
