Ensuring movements do not disturb my partner

My wife is a very light sleeper / insomniac. We want a very comfortable mattress. We have just bought a new bigger bedstead (super King) from sofas&stuff which has a sprung slatted base. We had thought that the artisan bespoke 4 with medium tension would be right for both of us. Would a zip and link mattress help to reduce transmission of movement. Does the fact that it is a sprung slatted base alter this decision? I am 73kg and 5 ft 8 and my wife is 63kg and 5ft 6.

Hi Andrew,

Sorry to hear of your wife's insomnia, it's really awful when you struggle to sleep and we can empathise greatly with this.

The Artisan Bespoke 004 would be fine for your weights and a medium tension spring would be the recommendation. We would advise that you board over the sprung slats though as per this article, if not you can nip and rip the mattress cover along with finding the mattress sags to conform between the gaps in slats. Boarding over removes these risks.

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

A zip and link would certainly reduce the transference of movement and would be advised in a super king size to help avoid movement from travelling. Pocket springs by their very nature reduce movement when compared to say an open coil, a zip & link mattress, however, reduces this even further.

If you need any further advice please get back in touch with us Andrew on 0161 437 4419.

Kind regards Julie
