Replacing old mattress because it has become so uncomfortable.

Mr David Gallagher

My wife is 5ft 4inch, weight, 9st 4lb, I am 6ft 1inch, 16-17 stone, there is quite a difference in body builds for a king size mattress. I have suffered with nigling back pain for a while. I also have a disc problem with my lower back, which can happen once or twice every two years. My wife does not suffer from back problems. What type of mattress would you recommend, we have a solid wood base bed.

Hi David,

Thank you for your enquiry.

You are correct in your assertion that your weight differential means that you will require what is known as a split spring tension mattress, which are available in king size and above in our Artisan range. In your particular case, you are borderline medium/firm and your wife is borderline soft/medium. Because you are going to be using the mattress on a solid wood base, this will make the mattress feel slightly firmer, which would lead us to suggest that you opt for a soft spring for your wife and a medium for yourself.

Please view the Artisan Naturals, the Artisan Bespoke 004 or the Artisan Bespoke, all of which can have the spring tension selected to suit as suggested above and all of which contain natural upholstery. The Naturals and the 004 will provide thew same overall feel in the upholstery, whereas the Bespoke has the most upholstery in the range, making it feel slightly firmer.

We trust that the above is of help to you, but if you require any further advice or guidance, please call our office on 0161 437 4419 and speak with one of our advisors.

Kind regards.
