Ottoman bed - divan or sprung base?
I'm looking at replacing both bed and mattress. Definitely keen on getting an Ottoman for storage reasons, but one thing I can't find much on is whether a divan base is better than a sprung/slat base, and whether or not this depends on the mattress. Even if one isn't necessarily better, I would like to understand reasons for choosing one over the other. I'm leaning towards a pocket sprung mattress, though my wife suffers from sciatica, so if any mattress types are particularly good for this, I'd consider changing my mind.
Hi Tom,
Thank you for your question.
Whether a particular base is 'better' than another is very subjective. What is ideal for one user won't be ideal for another.
Our Ottoman bases have a solid top so will firm up any mattress that is placed on top of it.
A sprung divan or a slatted base will also always firm up any mattress placed on to them. Our pocket sprung mattress range can go on to a slatted base as long as the gaps are no bigger than 3"". The reason for this is that the mattress will attempt to settle between the gaps causing indentation and damage to it.
Anyone suffering from sciatica would be fine with a medium feel mattress in it's comfort layers (upholstery layers). As such I would recommend either our Artisan 1500 or Artisan Naturals models.
Our Artisan range is constructed from a differing amount of natural fibres and materials and as such come in feeling cooler as well as softer overall than our Origins range.
In regards to choosing one base over the other, this is a tricky question to answer. An Ottoman is great for storage inside. However, there's nothing to suggest that one of the other bases won't be ideal for you as you can choose to have drawers in all our other bases, again providing that storage option.
I hope this has answered your questions fully but if you do have any further queries then please don't hesitate to contact us on 0161 437 4419.
Kind Regards, Lee.
