Mattress suitable for mixed side and back sleepers
Hi, I'm 1.8m and 82 kg. My wife is 1.6m and around 60kg. We're both mixed sleepers (mostly side but some back sleeping, particularly in the morning hours).
I was wondering whether we're better going for the Bespoke 0004 or the Bespoke?
I own a natural latex topper so was also wondering about going for the Bespoke but adding the topper. Would this make sense?
Thanks
Mike
Hi Mike,
Thank you for contacting us regarding a new mattress.
When choosing a new mattress, you need to ensure that not only do you receive the correct level of support but also the correct level of comfort. Support is provided by the internal spring unit and this is based upon body weights and heights. The level of comfort is provided by the fibres and fillings which are on top of those springs and is dictated really by sleeping positions.
At your body weights and heights, you require a medium level of support and this would be the case whichever mattress you chose from our Ranges.
Bodyweight | Spring tension |
---|---|
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg | Medium (1.4mm) |
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards | Firm (1.6mm) |
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) | Soft (1.2mm) |
As you are side and back sleepers, again I would recommend a medium level of comfort. This will ensure that when sleeping on your sides, that your shoulders and hips are cushioned but equally when sleeping on your back, will keep your spine aligned.
Artisan Bespoke 004
The Artisan Bespoke 004 is a handcrafted mattress containing 3600gsm of natural fibres providing a medium level of comfort so not too soft nor too firm. The 1600 springs contained within this mattress are calico encased individual pocket springs which is one of the best spring units a mattress can contain as again it is very breathable.
Artisan Bespoke
The Artisan Bespoke is again a handcrafted mattress however this mattress provides the sleeper with a firm level of comfort. This mattress contains a huge 5100gsm of fillings and as they are compacted together, this provides a firmer feel overall.
Topper
The natural latex topper which you currently have would be fine for our mattress however it does depend on the density of the latex within the topper as this could change the overall feel. We would recommend using a natural fibre mattress topper which compliments the natural fibres contained within the mattress. It is advisable not to use a topper on a new mattress at the very beginning as you need to ensure that the mattress fillings which provide comfort, do suit your requirements. If you add a topper at the very beginning, you are softening a mattress down before you need to you.
Bases
The mattresses within our Artisan Range have been made to go onto a sprung divan base which essentially cushions the mattress and does not alter the overall feel. They can go onto any bases such as slatted or solid however this will firm the internal support up ever so slightly.
If you have a slatted base, you would need to ensure that the gap between the slats are no more than 7.5cm apart otherwise the mattress could form between those gaps and affect the overall support of the mattress. If the gaps are more than 7.5cm apart, we would recommend boarding the base over with either MDF or Hardboard. This does not need to be very thick, anything between 3 - 5mm.
From the information you have provided, the Artisan Bespoke 004 would suit your requirements in terms of comfort and support.
If we can offer you any further information or advice, please do not hesitate giving our friendly team a call on 0161 437 4419.
Kind regards Julie
