Hi - we have been researching mattresses and retailers and your name comes up and time and time again!

We need to buy a new mattress as we are finding ours far too hard and it is hurting my hips and back. As a fan of independent retailers, last year bought a Kozeesleep Duchess superking mattress medium tension and it has been a nightmare. The retailer said that it would get softer but it has not and it is so uncomfortable that we sleep downstairs on our sofas!

It is truly like concrete. We need a soft mattress which will be on a slatted (with mdf boards) base and which will 'give' so that you sink in to it not balance on top!

Our weights are approx 10st and 15st. We do not want memory foam as we are very hot sleepers. Can you please recommend anything suitable that you sell?

Thanks Jules

Hi Jules, I am sorry to hear the issues you are experiencing with your current mattress.

Some of the issue may arise from you being of different body weights and whilst a medium might be more suited to your partner, for you it is probably too firm.

We have a number of mattresses within our Artisan range which might suit especially given the weight differential and the fact that in the size that you require you can opt for a split tension.

Whilst these mattresses are not cheap, they are not excessively priced and represent excellent value for money when compared to other high end mattresses on the market.

As you are hot sleepers, the more natural fillings in a mattress, the cooler the sleeping surface.   At your body weights and the fact that you require a soft mattress, I would recommend looking at our Artisan Luxury which has 100% natural fillings and would give you both that soft sink in feeling.   I would however recommend that the mattress is made with a medium spring tension as this would then give you the correct support for your body weights.

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

However if you would prefer something that has a more medium comfort layer which means the mattress is neither too soft nor too firm, then I would suggest looking at the Artisan Bespoke 004.  Again this mattress has 100% natural fillings.

The mattresses in our Artisan Range do have a similar feel to certain of the Vi Spring range of mattresses and it would be preferable for you both to try the Vi Spring mattresses to see which one suits you best.   You do need to try these mattresses with a medium spring tension which as stated above is the correct support for you both.

As the mattress is to go onto a slatted base, this will however firm the mattress up again slightly.

Alternatively, if your budget will not stretch to the cost of an Artisan mattress, please view the Origins Pocket 1500 which will give you both an overall medium comfort and support.   The Origins Comfort 1000 is our softest mattress in the Origins range but I feel this might b e a little too soft for your husband.

I hope that this assists but please do not hesitate to telephone our office for further information and advice on 0161 437 4419.
