Are all hybrid beds too hot!

Hello - we've had a waterbed for over 30 years which needs replacing. We decided to opt for a Dormeo Octaspring Sirocco mattress (it has a 60 day free return). However, the bed feels very hot so we are looking to return it. Please can you give us some advice on different mattress types? We are used to a soft mattress (given our experience of our water bed) and don't want to feel hot at night. Ideally, we'd like a mattress that we could try (ie with free return after a certain number of nights). Thank you!

Hi Paula,

Thank you for your question. A hybrid mattress usually contains pocket springs and some type of foam for the comfort layer. The Dormeo Octaspring is slightly cooler than a standard memory foam given the construction of the springs but it is still memory foam which is the warmest type of mattress as it requires body heat as well as pressure to be able to mould to you.

Latex only requires pressure to be able to mould to you and doesn't retain heat like memory foam making this material one of the coolest foam types. 100% natural latex will be cooler than a man-made fibre mattress. The density you require will be based on your body weight to ensure the correct support and comfort. The lighter your body weight the firmer the mattress will feel.

With a traditional pocket sprung mattress, the support is provided by the springs and your body weight will dictate which spring tension will give you the correct level of support.

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

The upholstery layers should be determined by your sleep position and your comfort preferences. Natural fibres will provide the coolest sleep surface. Our softest mattress is the Artisan Luxury which has a softer medium feel in the 100% natural fibre upholstery layers. Soft upholstery layers are ideal for side sleepers but may be too soft for those that sleep on their front or back.

I hope this helps and if you would like any further information or would like to discuss your individual needs, please do not hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards
Michaela
