Artisan 1500 or Origins Pocket 1500?

Hi there I recently asked a question regarding your origin 1500 mattress. I could now afford to go to the artisan 1500 I weigh 9.5 stone and my husband is 14 stone. I suffer from severe back ache at night and really hoping a new mattress will help this, also I side sleep. I will not have a divan as I don't really like them but a slatted bed frame which I could board over if this would benefit the mattress. Is it worth me buying the more expensive if I can afford this. To be honest I'm desperate for a comfortable bed to help my back!
Any advice gratefully received.

Hi Justine,

Many thanks for your further enquiry.

Origins Comfort 1000

Our original response was based on the information provided at that time and we now note that you have advised you are a side sleeper, which does affect the recommendation we would make, as we don't recommend anything too firm in the upholstery.  This can cause pressure pains in the shoulders, hips and knees. Anything with soft or medium comfort layers would be ideal for side sleepers.  In this instance, we would have referred you to the either the Origins Comfort 1000  or the Origins Pocket 1500. This is because, although they have the standard medium tension spring unit, they have soft or medium man-made upholstery layers respectively.

Artisan Bespoke 004

The Artisan 1500 on the other hand, does not have soft upholstery and if selected in a medium spring tension, it is unlikely that this will suit your side sleeping. The mattresses in the Artisan range that we would recommend for side sleepers are the Artisan Luxury, the Artisan Bespoke 002, the Artisan Bespoke 004 and the Artisan Naturals, which can all have the spring tension selected and again, has soft or medium natural upholstery layers. Having said that these products are considerably more expensive than the Artisan 1500.  If you decide on one of these models, at your body weights I would recommend a dual spring tension, one-half soft for yourself and one-half medium for your husband.

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

Any of these products can be used on a slatted base provided that you place a barrier, usually thin (3-5mm) MDF over the slats to provide the mattress with a uniform surface upon which to sit and avoid ridging occurring as a result of the mattress dipping into the gaps between the slats. We trust that this helps, but if you require any further advice or guidance, please call our office on 0161 413 2659.

Our office hours are 8 am – 8 pm Monday to Friday and 10 am – 4 pm Saturday and Sunday.

Kind Regards

Michaela
