Hi Stuart,

Thank you for your question. It can be confusing when looking for a new mattress, finding that perfect balance between comfort and support. It can be difficult to compare mattresses, especially when you try them in a showroom where the upholstery layers have already been softened by many potential customers. Let us look at the mattresses you are considering.

Button & Sprung Perendale 10250

1 Layer of Wool blend

2 Layer of Cotton, Egyptian Cotton, Hemp & Flax blend

3,4,5 Three layers of 2,500 high density micro pocket springs

6 Layer of 1,000 mini pocket springs

7 Layer of GRS certified fibre made from 100% recyclable materials

8 Layer of 750 Core pocket springs

9 Layer of 1,000 mini pocket springs

This mattress is a one sided mattress with the natural fibres only in the pillowtop. There are no GSMs given for these fibres, which makes it difficult to estimate the overall feel of the fibres. It is described as having a soft 'cloud-like' pillowtop and support provided by the springs in either medium-firm spring tension or firm. Wool and cotton are soft fibres, while flax and hemp are more supportive layers. This mattress, in a kingsize, contains 9500 micro springs and 750 supportive pocket springs. We do not sell pillowtop mattresses, as you can not prolong the lifespan of the mattress by regularly turning the mattress over. You can replicate the feel of a pillowtop mattress with a two sided mattress and a separate mattress topper. Both parts are then fully turnable, and when the mattress topper reaches the end of its life, you can just replace this instead of the whole mattress. The kingsize retails at £1700 (Aug 25).

Button & Sprung Montadale 7750

1 Layer of Cotton and Wool blend

2 Layer of Hemp and Flax blend

3,4 Two layers of 2,500 high density micro pocket springs

4 Layer of 1,00 mini pocket springs

6 Layer of 750 Core pocket springs

7 Layer of 1,000 mini pocket springs

This mattress is also a one sided mattress, which is described as having a medium level of comfort, although again, there are no GSMs given. The wool and cotton blend will provide cushioning for your shoulders and hips if you sleep on your side, while the supportive hemp and flax layer will prevent you from sinking in too much if you sleep on your back or front. This mattress has 7000 micro HD springs and 750 core supportive pocket springs, which are available in medium-soft spring tension and medium. We do not inflate our spring counts with micro HD springs as they offer nothing in support, you can compress them between your finger and thumb, but they do take up space where more luxurious upholstery layers could be. The kingsize retails at £1350 (Aug 25)

Artisan Tailored Pocket 2000

John Ryan By Design Artisan Tailored Pocket
1 1200gsm Blended British Fleece Wool and Cotton.
2 Hairproof Cambric Cover
3 1250gsm Poly Cotton
4 1500gsm Pure 100% Mohair
5 2000 Double Tier Spun Bond Pocket Springs (Soft/Med or Firm)
Total GSM 3950gsm

The layers of an Artisan Tailored Pocket 2000 mattress

This mattress is constructed with 85% natural fibres in the upholstery layers and has a medium level of comfort. This is ideal for all sleep positions as it is not too firm for side sleepers nor too soft for front and back sleepers. This mattress has two tiers of 1000 springs available in both medium spring tension, this tension supports body weights up to 17 stone, depending on your height, and firm spring tension, which supports body weights between 17 stone and 22 stone, also depending on your height. This is a two sided mattress, which means you have two sleep surfaces. When you can turn the mattress over, the upholstery layers have time to rest and regain loft. When you can only rotate a mattress, your hips tend to be in the same place so that these areas do not get time to rest and can compress quite quickly. The kingsize retails at £1880 (Aug 25)

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

When considering a new mattress, you should take into account your sleep positions and comfort preferences, as these will determine which comfort layers would be the most suitable. Your height and body weight should determine which spring tension will provide you with the correct level of support.

I hope this helps and if you would like any further information or would like to discuss your individual needs, please do not hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards

Michaela
