My bed base is a wooden slatted type. Will the Origins Pocket 1500 spring mattress be ok on this?

Also do you recycle and take old beds away?

Hi Joan,

Many thanks for your questions about mattress suitability for different bed bases.

All of our hand made mattresses are suitable for all bases including entry-level slatted mattress bases. We just ask that you check the slats have gaps of no wider than 2inches between the wooden or metal slats. It's also sometimes a good idea to use plywood or MDF to board over these slats. This helps distribute the weight of the mattress evenly along the bases and stop the two main issues that slatted bases can cause.

  1. Slatted bases with too large a gap between the slats can cause the mattress above to conform between the gaps causing lumpy mattresses over time.
  2. Slats can nip and snag at mattress covers, especially if wooden which can damage the mattress.

We recommend this for both solid slats and sprung slatted mattress bases. You can read more here in our detailed slatted mattress article.

If you need help looking at the other types of mattress base, whether its divan bases or bedframes then there's a really detailed guide here to work out which mattress base is best for you.

The Origins Pocket 1500 mattress you're looking at is one of our best sellers offering a medium feel in the top upholstery layers with support for up to 16 stone from independent pocket springs in a 1.4 gauge wire. It's a two-sided mattress and features a sizable 1550GSM of fillings.

We do offer a mattress recycling service for customers which costs £60. Your old mattress is taken away and completely recycled into new products meaning it doesn't go to landfill. You can choose this option in the checkout when buying your mattress.

Our mattress guide here can help you understand everything you need to know about buying a new mattress.

We hope that helps and gives you further mattress buying guidance. If you have any more mattress related questions please get back in touch on info@localhost or 0161 437 4419.

Sleep well
