Bed for sleepers who move around a lot at night and snore?

Amanda

My husband snores when on his back so trying to keep him on his side is a bit of a nightmare. He has used back cushions etc but they just skip round.

He tried a taller pillow last night but now he’s got back pain. Also he moves around a lot which disturbs me as I’m a very light sleeper.

We currently have a memory foam mattress and I’m considering what to do next.

Do we buy two separate beds and put them apart? I tried putting two separate mattresses next to each other on our base and it still disturbs me. He doesn’t want to spend a fortune and so not sure where to start and what to look for. Any help would be greatly fully received! Thanks :-)

Hi Amanda,

Many thanks for your comment on mattresses that will help reduce fidgeting at night and snoring.

Snoring is a tricky one as there are many different factors such as bodyweight, sleeping position and respiratory issues. We always advise you to seek medical advice to get to the bottom of the snoring if you think it is excessive. Obviously, a comfortable supportive mattress can help reduce nighttime movements and there's certainly some advice we can give you around this.

Memory foam mattresses are probably the worst for sleepers who need to move at night. This is because its the slowest to respond. Meaning you and your husband can get stuck in one sleeping position struggling to make any micro adjustments. We don't sell any memory foam models as it also can make sleepers very hot and has an alarmingly fast settlement rate.

As a light sleeper we would advise that you look at a zip and link mattress. Where two mattresses are zipped together. This really reduces transference/movement from the other sleeper. Also opting for a pocket spring mattress compared to foam will further reduce this disturbance.

Ideally, we need to know your bodyweight and height to advice on a specific model but please take a look at our Origins Pocket 1500 in a zip and link model. It's a true medium feel in the upholstery later and comes in a 1.4 medium gauge pocket spring support. Ideal for sleepers up to 16 stone.

It also has a wool top layer for better breathability and is two sided, unlike memory foam models.

Origins Pocket 1500 Mattress
1: 300GSM WOOL
2: 750GSM VERY SOFT POLYESTER
3: 500GSM POLYESTER PAD
4: ONE INCH FOAM INSULATOR LAYER
5: 1500 SPUN BOND POCKET SPRINGS
TOTAL: 1550GSM
DEPTH 30-33CM

We hope that helps and gives you further mattress buying guidance. If you have any more mattress related questions please get back in touch on info@localhost or 0161 437 4419.

Sleep well
John & Ryan
