Bed recommendations
Hi,
Me and my partner are trying to find a bed for ourselves as the Simba one we have is unimpressive. We have different needs and there's so much information.
I am 5'10 and weigh between 14-16st, side sleeper and occasional back sleeper, I wake up stiff often enough in my upper back and sometimes get lower back pain. I find it hard to get comfortable so fidget a lot.
She is 5'7 and wieghs 24+ stone. She often wakes up with lower back pain and previously we have had trouble finding a mattress that delivers pressure relief. If that's lacking she experiences a lot of hip pain, and if the support is lacking back pain. She is a side sleeper too.
Price is not necessarily an obstacle if it has to be top of the range but ideally within 1-2k is where we'd like to sit.
Are you able to help? This process of finding a mattress is incredibly frustrating and I feel we're going in circles.
Many thanks,
Bentley
Hi Bentley,
Thank you for your question. It can be confusing when looking for a mattress that will suit both you and your partner. The Simba mattress will provide your partner with pressure relief but will not be supportive enough for her, whilst you may find this a little too firm. If the level of comfort is too firm when sleeping on your side, this can cause pressure pains in your shoulders and hips or you can pivot on these areas, which puts pressure on your lower spine.
| Spring Tension | Wire diameter (Gauge) | Weight Range |
|---|---|---|
| Soft | 1.2mm | Bespoke Tension (Please Call) |
| Medium | 1.4mm | Upto 16 stone |
| Firm | 1.6mm | 16 stone plus |
| Extra Firm / Orthopaedic | 1.9mm | 20 stone plus |
The issue you will have is finding a mattress that will provide you both with the correct level of support. The spring tension is based on your height and body weight. At your height and body weight, we would pair you with the medium spring tension. Your partner requires an extra firm spring tension to provide her with the correct level of support. Unfortunately, this is not a spring tension that we offer, the firmest support we have is the firm spring tension which supports body weights up to 22 stone. You would require a dual spring tension mattress, and as you require spring tensions that are more than one step apart, you will probably only find this spring tension set up in a zip and link mattress. There are companies online that do provide the extra firm/medium spring tensions which you require.

The only mattress within our range that would be supportive enough for your partner is the Resilience 2 mattress, which is designed for the heavier sleeper. This mattress would provide her with a medium overall feel, however, this would be ultra firm for you. With a traditional pocket sprung mattress, the upholstery layers on top of the springs determine how the mattress feels. As you are a side and back sleeper, I would recommend a medium level of comfort. The medium comfort layers will provide cushioning in the top layers for your shoulders and hips, and the supportive layers underneath will prevent you from sinking in too much when sleeping on your back. This level of comfort would provide a softer medium level of comfort for your partner.
I hope this helps and I wish you well in your search for your perfect mattress.
Kind Regards
Michaela
