Bedstead with a pocket sprung base

I'm desperately trying to find a "Bedstead" type bed-frame that comes with a "Firm-Edge Pocket Sprung Base" instead of the standard slatted base.

Background - I have just pushed the boat out and invested in a Savoir mattress, but couldn't afford to get a base from them as well as it was all too expensive. I really like the look of a modern bedstead, with a nice shallow/low design, with the headboard being fully attached and part of the frame. However, the issue is that bedstead's only seem to come with slatted bases, and I want a "Firm-Edge Pocket Sprung Base" to really get the most out of my new Savoir mattress. The alternative is to go for a shallow divan with a headboard, but I just find these really don't look as nice as a bedstead.

Can you recommend any manufactures who make Bedsteads with a Firm-Edge Pocket Sprung Base instead of slats.

Thanks,
Luke

Hi Luke,

Thanks for your question on bedsteads and bedframes. It's a really good question. Also congratulations on owning one of the worlds finest mattresses from Savoir. That's a real bucket list achievement for most mattress aficionados out there.

Savoir beds are paired up with their firm edge sprung bedsteads or divans which features an additional layer of pocket springs to marry up with the mattress. We offer this with our Artisan bases range and hand made mattresses. For some people, a sprung edge base offers a slightly more progressive feel to a mattress. Some people hardly notice the difference as it is very subtle. Sprung edges are the top end of all mattress bases.

With Saviors box frame bedsteads probably as much work goes into them as their mattresses which is why they are upwards of £5000-£20,000 just for the bed frame alone. Depending on which Savoir model its paired up with. Savoirs Firm-edge' just means that their sprung bases, like our divan bases, use a firmer 1.6 gauge spring on the very edge to stop roll off and then a 1.4 medium gauge spring in the rest of the bed base.

You're right in stating that a shallow divan is nowhere near as nice as a styled and designed bedframe. We offer a halfway house between the expense of the Savoir sprung bedstead by having recently just launched our handmade bedframes that utilise an upholstered bed pad, not slats. There's very few sprung edge bed frame or bedstead makers as there's only a tiny demand for them from people looking for the most high-end mattresses.

This bed pad is not a sprung edge but offers a halfway point between the awkwardness of lacklustre wooden bed slats and the expense of a fully sprung edge bed frame.  Our upholstered pad offers some additional cushioning at a lighter level than a sprung edge divan but maybe more in your price point. It also removes the issues with slats causing damage to higher-end mattresses if they're not. These are hand made in the UK and come in a variety of luxury fabrics. Please have a look here at the designs and customisations available.

We hope that helps and gives you further mattress buying guidance. If you have any more mattress related questions please get back in touch on info@localhost or 0161 437 4419.

Sleep well
