Best alternative to pillow top mattress
My wife and I have been trying various beds in shops with the intention of finding an equivalent at your store.
We were encouraged to try a pillow topped mattress (Bensons Bespoke Grandeur) and found it by far the most comfortable of those we tried. Having read your advice on pillow tops I'd like to recreate the feel as much as possible with a separate matress and topper.
I'm fairly confident I can match the pillow top section by searching a few stores, but I'd like to match one of your mattresses to the Bensons one. It claims to have 2250 pocket springs, although on closer inspection that breaks down to a "Single layer of 1530 pocketed springs" and a "Single layer of mini pocketed springs - the 720 springs contour to the body providing superb resilience and optimum comfort and support."
My snake oil detector tells me that's probably a 1500 (ish) coil mattress. In which case, would you recommend the
Origins Pocket 1500, leaving me to find a topper to match?
Thanks
Hi Paul,
Thank you for your enquiry.
The first thing to say is that we do not make any mattresses that are comprable to any products for sale in Bensons. The reason for this is that the published details of construction and upholstery in terms of GSM (grams per square metre) are limited. Likewise, we do not make pillow topped mattress for the reasons detailed here.
Without the exact detail of your body weight(s) is it not possible for us to confirm that the Origins Pocket 1500 would be suitable for you but the spring tension table below should assist. Having said that, this mattress has a standard medium tension spring unit together with man made upholstery providing an overall medium feel.
Your bodyweight | This will feel |
---|---|
Under 10 Stone / 63kg | Medium |
10-12 Stone / 63-76kg | Medium |
12-14 Stone / 76-88kg | Medium |
14-16 Stone / 88-101kg | Medium |
16-18 Stone / 101-114kg | Soft to Medium |
18 Stone / 114kg Plus | Please call for advice |
As far as the application of a topper is concerned, we would advocate using your new mattress for at least 21-28 before deciding whether a topper is necessary. This is because it can take that long for your body to get used to the feel of a new mattress and if you buy one at the outset, it may turn out to be an unnecessary expense. Additionally, we aim to match the customer to the product in terms of spring tension and feel and as such there is likely to be no need for a topper in any event.
We trust that this helps and would suggest calling our office on 0161 437 4419 to provide one of our advisors details of your body weight(s) and preferred feel.
Kind Regards Gary
