A customer asked

I'm 13 stone and 5'5". I suffer with back pain but am a side sleeper. Which mattress would be best?

Hi Heather

Thanks for your question,

Your sleeping habits/personal preference will then determine how you would like the mattress to feel in the comfort layers. This is where you will achieve the feel you are looking for (soft/medium/firm). Do you know if you have a preference for a soft, medium or firm?

If you do not, I would advise to go out and try;

Vispring Devonshire - Soft in upper layers - Comparable with the Artisan Luxury

Vispring Regal Superb - True medium in upper layers - Comparable with Artisan Bespoke 004

Vispring Herald - Firm in the upper layers - Comparable with the Artisan Bespoke

As you are suffering from back pain this would lead me to suggest nothing too firm in the comfort layer as this will only cause the pain to increase, a medium in the comfort layer would be my recommendation for you.

From there, your body weight determines the spring tension you require as shown below

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

I hope this helps, if you have any further questions please don't hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards
