Coir mattress pad for slatted bedframe

Hi John Ryan team.

I have just ordered your Artisan Bespoke mattress, which will sit on our current Warren Evans bed frame. It has solid pine slats with 75mm gap between them. I think I've found a alternative to the pegboard or old duvet that you recommend - coir mattress pad:

We're thinking of using this with a cotton sheet over it to avoid scuffing the underside of the mattress.

Thoughts?

Hi Ranjit,

Thank you for your enquiry about the coir mattress pad you’re considering for your slatted bed frame.

As you have a slatted bed frame, we always advise adding some sort of covering over the slatted area. This covering, such as a solid board or a mattress pad, specifically designed for slatted bases, serves an important purpose. It helps to distribute weight evenly across the mattress and prevents the slats from directly impacting the mattress underneath. Without this protective layer, the underside of the mattress can take on the impression of the slats over time, potentially leading to uneven wear which could affect your comfort and the longevity of the mattress. By ensuring a proper barrier, you can maintain the integrity of your mattress and enjoy a better sleeping experience.

The coir mattress pad you are considering is an excellent choice because coir, made from natural fibres, offers exceptional support and moisture absorption. Additionally, it is highly breathable.

Coir, which is derived from the husks of ripe coconuts, is a remarkable material known for its durability and natural qualities. It is processed into flexible, breathable sheets that provide excellent support and comfort, making it an ideal filling for mattresses and also door mats and upholstery support, thanks to its strength and ability to withstand wear.
