Hi
I tried one last visit to an out of town store in the hope of trying Sealey's Which Best Buy Matresses. However they did not have them in store, further more neither salesmen had even heard of them. I think I mentioned something about product knowledge.
On leaving I overheard them complaining about prices going up and down faster than a.......knickers. Seems they had a problem tracking their own 'sales' pricing.
Having gone around the houses; trawling through bed websites and visiting various stores, I found your very informative website.
To the point, I am 6 ft and a uncomfortable 16.5 stone, with degenerative vertebrae in the low spine. In addition I suffer neuropathy in the feet, tingling and numbness. I start to sleep on my side however I am told that I end up on my back.
Currently sleep on 8 year old Kingsize Benson for Beds 8cm gap slatted bed frame and sprung/ memory foam top mattress. Recently became very lumpy and uncomfortable.
I will be sleeping alone and room enough for a new double bed and mattress.
Budget £800-£1000, ideas please.
I would like to buy and additional king size mattress for the King Size Bed as a parting present for a 8 stone, 5ft 4in lady.
Budget £600, ideas please.
Many thanks in anticipation.

Hi Alan,
Because most bed manufacturers in the UK do not disclose specific details of the springs and upholstery layers in their mattresses, we are unable to provide recommendations or comparisons and this also begs the question as to how Which can assert that a product is a "best buy"?. With your body weight and height, I would suggest that you require a medium tension mattress, whereas for the soon to be leaving partner, she is definitely in the soft tension bracket.
Taking into account your budget, I would recommend the Origins Pocket 1500, which is priced at £480.00 for a double mattress and £160.00 for the divan base, drawers are an additional £40.00 a pair. In respect of the king size mattress, please look at the Origins Comfort 1000 mattress, which retails at £440.00. If the lady is to utilise the current king sized slatted base, I would recommend that you place a barrier between the mattress and the base in the form of 3-5mm MDF/peg board sheeting. This will prevent the mattress depressing into the gaps between the slats, which are, in my opinion, excessively wide apart. I trust that this helps, kind regards Mike.
