Hi there - here I am at 04.00 hrs being unable to sleep - I normally sleep on my side but I'm now in agony with my shoulder - we have just changed our mattress and went for a 2000 pocket sprung with a natural filling - clearly it is not up to your build standards !!! I now need something that will provide me with an uninterrupted nights sleep. I'm 6ft and my wife is 5.7" - I'm 13st and she's 9st. We have a sleigh king size bed with normal wooden slats. We would like a natural filling and I've been pondering over your Artisan Luxury mattress. Can you please help - any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi John,

Many thanks for your enquiry. There is nothing worse than not getting a good nights sleep as this affects the way you feel the following day and will impact on your performance at work or in anything you do.

A mattress with 2000 spring in a king size is likely to be on the firm side as normally for average body weights, 1000 springs are sufficient in that size to provide the support required. In our opinion, you are best suited to a medium spring tension and in order for you to soften the feel of your present mattress, it may be prudent, at this stage, to buy a mattress topper , rather than go to the expense of a new mattress.

With slatted bases, we would always recommend placing some form of barrier, usually thin (3-5mm) MDF over the slats to provide the mattress with a uniform surface upon which to sit and prevent ridging occurring as a result of the mattress dipping into the gaps between the slats. This is likely to make the mattress feel slightly firmer, which should be minimised with the application of a mattress topper. We do make some toppers in latex and hybrid foam, but would normally recommend that if you have natural upholstery, ideally you should opt for a topper of similar construction, although this can be a question of personal preference.

The Artisan Luxury that you refer to is the softest mattress in terms of upholstery in that range and can have the spring tension selected as soft, medium or firm. Before recommending that you opt for this product, we would need to discuss your requirements in more detail and would suggest trying a topper as suggested above first.

We trust that this is of help to you and if you require a further advice or guidance, particularly in respect of the Artisan Luxury, please call our office on 0161 437 4419, kind regards.
