Fire retardant treatment of the latex core

You have said all latex must be treated to make it fire retardant. Do you buy latex which is already treated with FR chemicals by the latex wholesaler or do you spray/treat it yourself. Is all natural latex available to mattress producers in the UK treated to make it fire retardant? I have been told by Latexsense that their organic mattress range is chemical free. Can you comment? Would you count a water based adhesive as a chemical ?

Hi Meg

Thank you for your question.

With regard to our Latex mattresses, we use a thin layer of Graphite Latex which is the fire retardant and complies with British Regulations BS5852:1982 Part 11 and BS7177. Our Latex is 100% natural and is not treated with any chemicals.

Our entire Artisan Mattress range and Latex mattresses now feature a Chemical-Free FR application. By using Biobased ingredients for the treatment compound. Resulting in a plant-based fire retardancy finish which is completely compliant with the regulations.

With regard to Latexsense, I am unable to comment on their range of mattresses as they don't give enough detail on their models I'm afraid.

I hope the above is of assistance to you but if you do require any further information please telephone our office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind regards Julie
