Cathy gent

Hi you answered my previous question about the Dartmoor superb at John Lewis. I have now also tried the
HAnbury superb now as a soft finish which also seemed comfortable. The HAnbury is more expensive so can you please advise whether you think the higher cost is worth it, if there is any reason I should avoid a soft mattress as I do suffer from a bad back at times , and what the equivalent would be in your range , as I like the guarantee you offer
Many thanks

Hi Cathy,

Thank you for your question.

Both the mattresses you refer to are exclusive to John Lewis and the details of the component parts are very general and do not give the GSM (grams per square metre) of the upholstery used. This makes providing any comparison impossible. What I would say is that, based on the limited information available, the Hanbury does appear to have more components in the upholstery, which results in a higher price. That is not to say it is a better product and would be more suitable as this is a question of personal preference.

Our Artisan 1500 does have a similar feel to the Hanbury.  The Artisan 1500 mattress has 4300gsm of upholstery and gives the mattress an overall medium feel.

John Ryan By Design Artisan 1500
1 500gsm Wool
2 600gsm Rebound Poly Cotton (50/50)
3 700gsm Polyester
4 600gsm: Rebound Poly Cotton (50/50)
5 700gsm Polyester
6 1200 gsm Cashmere Hair Pad as Insulator
7 1500 Spun Bond Pocket Springs (Soft/Med or Firm)
Total GSM 4300gsm

I note your body weight is low and as such you are best suited to a soft or medium tension mattress, again dependent upon personal preference. Do not opt for anything which would provide a firmer feel as this is likely to aggravate any back issues you may have.

I trust that this assist but please do not hesitate to contact the office for further information or advice on 0161 437 4419.

Kind regards Julie
