How much give do your mattresses have in them?
Hello, I'm 16 stone and 5' 9" and am looking to buy a mattress. I prefer a very firm mattress which doesn't really let me sink in at all. Any mattresses with foam toppers or which have thick padding on them which allow for much sinking in I find uncomfortable, but if mattresses are too unyielding then my wife (who is about 2/3rd of my weight and just under 5') finds that too hard. She finds a firm mattress comfortable, as long as there is a bit of padding on it. We had considered getting an ultra firm mattress to keep me comfortable and then adding a single topper for her to have her side of the bed which would give her the extra padding she'd want, but what would you advise?
Hi Alastair,
Thank you for your enquiry.
With your particular body weights we would recommend a split spring tension mattress, firm for you, based on your preference and medium for your wife. The spring tension needs to be correct to provide the correct level of support for your body weights and ideally, we would suggest selecting the right spring tension for you both at the outset rather than looking to soften the feel for your wife with the application of a single topper. Such split tension mattresses are only available in our Artisan range in a king size and above and can be made either as a one-piece or zip and link set. These mattresses contain natural upholstery
The amount of give, as you refer to it, will be dependent upon the spring tension and upholstery. Please view the Artisan Naturals, the best seller in the range, or the Artisan Bespoke 004, both of which can have the spring tension selected as detailed. The Naturals has 85% natural upholstery and the 004 has 100%, although they both provide a similar overall feel.
We trust that the above helps, but if you require any further advice or guidance, please call our office on 0161 437 4419.
Kind Regards.
