Thanks for getting in touch asking what compares to the Hypnos Ortho Platinum Deluxe mattress.

Let's have a look at what's inside this Hypnos mattress before we offer any comparisons or advice.

Hypnos Ortho Platinum Mattress Review:

• Solotex™ - Provides a luxurious cushioning fibre which promotes airflow adding to the softness and will help with shape retention.
• eOlus™ Sustainable Fibre - A sustainable raw material re-using discarded polymer-based bottles which helps conserve natural resources
• Cocona Natural Cover - derived from recycled coconut shells and naturally occurring minerals.
• 3 Rows of Hand Side Stitching
• Hand-Tufted

The first thing to look at is the spring count and gauge. This is because spring tensions are often missold by retailers. Meaning you pick the 'spring tension' thinking it will give you the ultimate comfort feel.

Comfort is provided by the upholstery layer and not the spring tension. The spring tension should always be chosen on your weight. Given that this is a firm or ultra firm mattress it either means it's using a 1.6 or 1.9 gauge spring or really firm fibres. Sadly Hypnos don't disclose this so it is impossible to know. Have a look below at the bodyweight and spring tension table for clarity on the tension you should be choosing.

The ReActive springs are spunbond pocket springs. Hypnos has developed them as a new spring technology as they are longer than standard springs. We don't use them in our range. Opting for traditional pocket springs. Our Artisan range chooses Vanadium coated calico encased pocket springs (with 8 turns vs their 9) - no synthetic coverings like the Hypnos springs. Hypnos Upholstery detailing:

The sad fact is that none of the technical specifications of this mattress provides any discernable detail to allow you to either compare this mattress or work out its true comfort. Without Hypnos disclosing the GSM or blends of these fibres its impossible to work out how this will feel.

A lot of the time manufacturers will blend fibres so they can include it without having to bear the huge costs of including 100% natural fibre fillings. For example, Alpaca is one of the most expensive mattress fibres. There is no way there is going to be a 100% Alpaca layer of discernable depth, ie 1000GSM higher for mattresses less than £2,000 for a kingsize. So you need to bear this in mind when looking at these mattresses.

The mattress has wool, again no GSM or blends given. It also contains recycled fibres, similar if not the same to polyester. Solotex is also a blended polyester fibre. You can probably see now how the devil really is in the details.

Mattress Detailing:

It's nice to see hand side stitching. We use this on all of our Artisan models and offer a more secure perimeter layer and shows some nice hand made detailing.

The 'Seasonal turn' element causes us some concern. Either the mattress is two sided or it isn't. Unless they have different fibres on each side. Although this gives you two different feels, it can also lead to uneven settlement. So bear that in mind. All mattresses where possible should be turned each month to even out natural settlement. I'd get in touch with Hypnos to find out exactly what this means.

Comparisons to Hypnos:

Given the above mattress is an orthopaedic very firm mattress we will recommend a firmer feel model from our range. Thought reading between the lines I'm not sure this is ideal for you unless you really want a firm comfort layer mattress. which most people don't. Below is the Artisan bespoke, our firmer feel natural fibre mattress and then the Artisan Naturals a more medium feel which may be better for you.

Artisan Bespoke Mattress - Firm Feel

The Artisan Bespoke has an incredible 5100GSM of 100% Natural fillings giving it a firmer feel.

The Horsetail, Horsehair and Cashmere insulator gives the mattress a firmer feel in the top upholstery Comfort Layers.

Two layers of Wool and Blended British Wool and Cotton provide a slight sink giving this a firm but forgiving feel.

The Bespoke has three rows of Genuine Hand Side Stitching & Hand Nested Springs. 8 padded turning handles on a Kingsize model.

1600 Calico encased Pocket Springs [49mm] [1.28mm] Sewn-in individual calico pockets and hand-formed into a honeycomb-nested unit. We also zone the perimeter sides (2 rows) of the mattress with a slightly firmer spring to aid the edge support. This stabilises the mattress when sitting on the edge.

The Woven mattress cover is completely Chemical-Free using a Natural plant-based fire retardancy protection.

Artisan Naturals Mattress - Medium feel

The Artisan Naturals hand made mattress is one of our best sellers for good reason! The internal upholstery is amongst the best you can get for this price range and all this combined ensure that this mattress will be exceptionally hard to beat for build, comfort and more importantly, price.
