Loved the above mattress. I’ve since read through here that pillow tops fail sooner rather than later

What would you consider comparable to the above ? It was the medium tension I tried and loved the cloud like feeling.
cheers

Hi Leigh,

Thank you for your question. We do not recommend pillow top mattresses as you can not prolong the lifespan of the mattress by regularly turning the mattress over. Doing this gives the upholstery layers time to rest and regain loft. With a one sided mattress that you can only rotate, your hips tend to be in the same positions which means this area of the mattress will always be in use and will compact quicker. You can replicate the feel of a pillow top mattress with a two sided mattress and a separate mattress topper that both parts are fully turnable and once the topper has compressed and reached the end of its life, you can replace just the topper and not the whole mattress.

The Hypnos Pillow Top Elite mattress has a layer of spun-bonded springs in a medium spring tension that will support body weights up to 17 stone, depending on height. There is a layer of micro HD springs sandwiched between two layers of Talalay latex and a wool and cotton blend in the 'topper' section. We do not recommend micro HD springs as they offer nothing in support but do take up space where more luxurious upholstery layers could be. There is no density given for the latex layer but as this mattress is recommended for front and back sleepers I would guess this is a firm support layer. There is no GSM given for the wool and cotton fibres which will wick away heat and moisture and help you regulate your body temperature.

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

The closest mattress in our range in terms of construction is the Origins Pocket Latex 1500 which has latex as the comfort layer that would be damaged on the underside of the mattress. However, as latex only requires pressure to be able to mould to you, the lighter your body weight the firmer the mattress will feel. The upholstery layers should be determined by your sleep positions and comfort preferences. We do not recommend firm upholstery layers for side sleepers as this can cause pressure pains in the shoulders and hips. Likewise, we do not recommend soft upholstery layers for front and back sleepers as this can cause pain in the lower back and neck areas. We would need to know your sleep positions, and comfort preferences along with your height(s) and weight(s) to be able to recommend a suitable mattress for you.

I hope this helps and if you would like to discuss your individual needs, please do not hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards

Michaela
