I currently have a King Size Firm Mattress, and now find that I wake up I the night with aching shoulder joints, and hips. I believe that as I mainly sleep on my side, I should not be using a firm mattress. The mattress in being used on a metal framed bed, but not on slats. I have a base that has a solid surround, but is sprung. The depth of the base is 100 mm. I have been looking at some pillow top mattresses, but have just read a response you have provided to a previous online query, recommending that having a pillow top may affect the longevity of the mattress. You suggest using a normal mattress with a mattress topper. I am about 16.5 stone in weight, and am conscious that this does not help with the symptoms I have currently having. I look forward to receiving your thoughts.

Hi Alan,

Thank you for your enquiry.

What is required is the correct spring tension to provide the correct level of support for your body weight together with the right upholstery suitable for a side sleeper. The spring tension you should be looking for is medium and not firm and for a side sleeper, you need softer upholstery layers.

Artisan Luxury mattress

Without knowledge of your budget it is difficult to make a specific recommendation, however, there are two products in our ranges which may suit. The first is the Origins Comfort 1000, which has a standard medium tension spring unit with softer man-made upholstery layers. Alternatively, if you prefer natural upholstery, please view the Artisan Luxury, which can have the spring tension selected to suit in soft, medium or firm and has the softest natural upholstery in the range.

Once you have viewed these products, please call our office on 0161 437 4419 and speak with one of our advisors who can provide more specific advice as to suitability.

Kind Regards.
