Is memory foam ok for a sprung slat base
We are changing beds from a divan to a framed wooden bed with sprung slats. I am 8 stone, my husband is 13 stone. I'm interested in the memory foam but not sure if it's best to get a sprung mattress, then add a memory foam topper?
Hi Joanna,
We do not recommend memory foam because of its heat retentive qualities.
If you do purchase a pocket sprung mattress, I would wait at least 14 days before deciding upon whether a topper is required, as it may be an unnecessary expense if purchased at the same time as the mattress.
In addition, I would advise that you place a barrier between the slats and the mattress and this barrier could take the form of 2-3mm of MDF sheeting. This will prevent the mattress slipping between the gaps and subsequently ridging.
I trust that this helps,
Kind Regards Gary
