Is my new mattress to firm.?
AHarrison spinx quarts deluxe medium -
hi I just bought this mattress two days ago, I’m an all around sleeper but tend to end up on the side a lot so I went with a medium because it said all round position. Im only two nights in and I have serious hip pain today feels like my hips are now misaligned and my right shoulder / back is really soar. i am only in my 30s and don’t usually suffer with any type of pain. The mattress was a little expensive for my budget over 2000£ but I thought I’d invest in my future sleep. I naturally took off the packaging and added my mattress protection and two sheets ( to stop any new itch from the wool) i am now really worried I got the wrong bed and it’s way to firm. I bought my son a eco comfort from silent nights at the same time and when I have just laid down in his bed it feels like heaven in comparison:( help
Hi Rosie,
Thank you for your question. A new mattress will always feel firmer than showroom models. This is due to hundreds of potential customers bouncing on them every day. The upholstery layers are compacted during manufacturing, and it takes you sleeping and moving around on the mattress to soften and flatten the fibres. As well as the comfort layers requiring time to settle, your body can take 4 to 6 weeks to adjust to a new mattress.
| Bodyweight | Spring tension |
|---|---|
| Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg | Medium (1.4mm) |
| 16 Stone / 101kg Upwards | Firm (1.6mm) |
| Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) | Soft (1.2mm) |
I have looked at the Harrison Spinks Quatz Delux mattress. This is a one-sided mattress with a medium level of comfort in the upholstery layers and micro HD springs. The medium option for this mattress is the spring tension. This should be based on your height and bodyweight to provide you with the correct level of support. The medium spring tension will support body weights up to 17 stone.

We would recommend a medium level of comfort for combination sleepers, as this is not too firm for side sleepers nor too soft for front and back sleepers. Given your sleep positions, it is better to have a mattress that is too firm to start with that will feel right once the upholstery layers have softened, rather than it feel right to start with, which may settle to be too soft, as this can cause lower back and neck pain. As you are finding the mattress too firm, adding a separate mattress topper will provide additional cushioning. This can then be removed once the upholstery layers have settled; however, it will take longer for this process to complete, as the topper will be taking the impact of you sleeping and moving around on the mattress and not the upholstery layers.
I hope this helps and if you would like any further information, please do not hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419.
Kind Regards
Michaela
