Is the Artisan Tailored Pocket 2000 natural fibre mattress two sided

Thank you for contacting us regarding the Artisan Tailored Pocket 2000 natural fibre mattress.   This mattress is a two sided mattress which means that the upholstery fillings are on both sides with the internal spring unit in the middle of the mattress.

This mattress provides the sleeper with a medium level of comfort so not too soft nor too firm.

As this is a two sided mattress, it is very important that this mattress is flipped over on a monthly basis for about 12 months as this will then allow all the those lovely natural fibres to settle evenly.  It is recommended that after the first month of sleeping on the mattress, this is flipped over head to toe and then the following month it is flipped over side to side.   After the 12 month period it is advised to keep on top of the maintenance  is then flipped over every few months.

If you purchase a mattress with a larger surface area such as kingsize or super kingsize, it is very important that you utilise the whole of the sleeping area.   As we are creatures of habit and tend to sleep on our own sides each night, the middle area of the mattress very rarely gets utilised so the middle upholstery layers are not able to settle along side the sleeping area.  This means that, initially, body impressions would be more visible as the mattress fillings directly beneath the user are compressed.

The internal spring unit of this mattress is there to provide support and this support is dictated by body weights and heights.    All the upholstery fillings which are on top of the spring unit are there to provide comfort and this is dictated by sleeping positions.

A side sleeper does require cushioning for shoulders and hips so could lie on a mattress with either a soft or a medium level of comfort, a back sleeper does require more medium level of comfort as this will keep the spine aligned whereas a front sleeper requires a slightly firmer level of comfort as this will prevent their tummy from sinking in to the top layers causing an unnatural arch in the back.
