Mattress for loft conversion

A customer asked

Hi John. Fantastic site. My husband and I need a new mattress, but cannot fit a traditional pocket sprung one up the narrow bend that leads to our attic conversion. We have been looking at the Sensaform memory pocket 1050 as this comes vacuum packed. In your opinion, would this give enough support for my 13 stone husband (with back issues). Also, do you know the softness grade, as on the website it says it's a 1 (very soft), but in the store it says it's a 3 (medium to firm)?

Your comments would be very welcome. Many thanks. Mags .

Hi Mags.

Personally I would look for a vac packed memory foam mattress (I Know!) with a high density foam core support layer.

Look at ergoflex.co.uk to see what they have to offer.

This will be supportive enough / comfortable enough for you both.

I would then supplement this with an additional topper purely for the comfort.

The reason I say this is that the pocket springs in vac packed units are generally on the soft side (quite a low gauge) for ease of rolling.

A common complaint is that the support is not usually good enough.

Secondly, as I have said before, the comfort grades offered from manufacturers and retailers are a bit of a nonsense.

A ten stone pretty little thing will feel a different level of comfort than a well built hunk of muscle.

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

To assign a comfort grade carte blanch to a model is just not possible without knowing the users weight.

Hope this helps Mags and please let us know what you decide upon and how it works for the benefit of other readers in the same position.

John and Ryan.
