The first thing to say is that with your particular body weights, you are correct in your assumption that a medium spring tension/feel mattress is likely to be the best option. Secondly, with your budget, you would be best looking at the naturally upholstered mattresses in our Artisan range and in particular at the best seller in that range as detailed at the foot of this response, the Artisan Naturals or the Artisan Bespoke 004. Both of these products can have the spring tension selected as soft, medium or firm, to suit and both have natural upholstery, 85% for the Naturals and 100% for the 004.

Both these mattresses can be used on a slatted base, however, we would suggest placing some form of barrier, usually thin (3-5mm) MDF over the slats to provide the mattress with a uniform surface upon which to sit and prevent ridging occurring as a result of the mattress dipping into the gaps between the slats.

As far as a topper is concerned, we would suggest waiting until you have had your new mattress for at least 28 days before deciding upon whether one is required, otherwise it could turn out to be an unnecessary expense.
