Mattress similar to Vi Spring Shetland Superb (soft tension)?

I am a tiny lady (5 foot 2, a bit under 7 stone). I have a Vi Spring divan and mattress combo with I bought some years ago in JL in 'medium' tension - but it is unspeakably hard for me despite the addition of toppers. I have always liked to sleep on my side, but cannot on this mattress as it hurts my hips. I have subsequently slept quite well elsewhere on a JL Vi Spring Beaulieu, and very well on a Shetland Superb (both in soft tension).
Do you make a mattress which would be similar in feel to either of these? I will pay pretty much whatever it costs to get a decent night's sleep (which I have not had in my own bed for many years!!)

Hi there,

thank you for your question.

The two Vi-Spring mattresses you refer to do not have specific details of the upholstery in terms of GSM (grams per square metre) within their published descriptions, so it is virtually impossible to suggest a similar product in terms of feel and construction. Having said that, I am aware that the Shetland is a particularly soft mattress and both have natural components in their upholstery. Our Artisan range also has natural upholstery and the softest in this range is the Artisan Luxury, the closets comparison that we make to the Luxury is the Vi Spring Devonshire.

John Ryan By Design Artisan Luxury Vi-Spring Devonshire
1 1200 GSM British Fleece Wool and Cotton 600gsm British Fleece Wool
2 Hairproof Cambric Cover 1700gsm Devonshire Fleece Wool
3 1200gsm Pure Horsehair NA
4 500gsm Pure Wool NA
5 1200gsm Pure Horsetail NA
6 500gsm Pure Wool 300gsm Bonded British Fleece Wool and Cotton
7 1476 Calico encased Pocket Springs [51mm] [1.42mm] 1326 Calico encased Pocket Springs [54mm] [1.52mm]
Total GSM 4600gsm 2600gsm

I note that you are very light weight and as such, I would recommend a mattress with a soft spring tension, irrespective of which model you choose in terms of upholstery. The spring tension ought to be selected on the basis of a person's body weight as this is what provides the support to your body, the upholstery provides the comfort. You could have a soft spring tension mattress with firmer feeling upholstery (Artisan Bespoke) or you could opt for a soft tension mattress with soft upholstery layers to provide that snuggle when you get in to bed (Artisan Luxury).

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

The Artisan Naturals is our most popular, unbeatable model with 85% natural fibres. Containing a huge GSM of fillings, including wool and mohair, on a Calico pocket spring unit. This medium feel hand crafted mattress is where we stake our reputation as ‘The Mattress Specialists’. The closest comparison we make to the Naturals is the Vi Spring Regal Superb.
