A mattress topper's primary purpose it to deepen a mattress comfort layer.

This usually makes the top of a mattress feel softer. A topper won't for example firm up the support of a mattress or futon beneath it. It won't fix a dipped mattress or damaged spongy mattress. There's a detailed article here all about mattress toppers which may help.

If you want to increase the depth of the futon mattress to give a bit more depth and comfort then a topper could be an option.

The biggest consideration is that foam or latex toppers are not made to be bent and folded for long periods of time without damage. Therefore I wouldn't recommend one of ours if it's going to be folded away with the sofa bed. You might be better looking at 2 companies online; The first is Soak and Sleep and the other is Latex Sense.
