Mattress topper to stop the feeling of bed tufts
Hello
We bought a superking zip link artisan 1500 for a couple weighing 60kg & 90 kg. We both agree the support of the mattress is great, but we find the surface uncomfortable since we can feel the divets/tufts through the john lewis mattress protector despite having the mattress for some time.
We have also tried with a wool/silk topper which I find much more comfortable than my husband who find the topper moulds to his body leaving him sleeping in a dip. Have you any suggestions to stop us feeling the dimples in the mattress without losing the support please?
Hi Gill,
Thanks for getting back in touch about your Artisan 1500 hand made mattress.
All of our Artisan range of hand made in the UK mattresses utilise hand tufting in their construction methods. Tufts help keep your natural fillings evenly spaced and held together. A small number of people are sensitive to feeling these tufts.
Cheaper low-quality mattresses may get away with quilting but often with settlement occurring as a result. This is because quilting will only hold the top layer of fibres in place with the rest moving and shifting over time.
Like you say a topper is usually the best advice to help remove the sensitivity to these tufts. What we would recommend is looking at adding an additional deep microfibre topper to help remove the proximity you're feeling.
You won't lose the support of the mattress by adding a topper. A topper simply deepens comfort layers and softens the top layer. Another alternative is to add two different toppers a thinner one for your husband and a deeper one for you given its a zip and link model.
We hope that helps.
