New Bed purchase

Dave

Hi, I wish I'd done research before buying my previous bed: a Dreams Sicily Pocket Sprung 2000 with 'latex' topper. For first couple of years I loved it - really comfortable. But, it started to sag after about 3 years, badly by 4, and terribly by years 5-6 - not helping my back problems. So, I've read a lot on your site and elsewhere and am tempted to buy a bed from you, but then it becomes difficult again. Ideally I am looking to spend around £1000 (same as last time), which puts your Artisan 1500 (double) out of range which would have been my preferred option. Next, there's the Pocket Latex 1500 - but it's only 1 sided, and I've now read enough to know (and after previous Dreams bed) that 1-sided is a bad idea. Which then leaves the Origins Pocket 1500: 2-sided, medium, and could spec it with a 4-drawer base and headboard for £920. But there's only a 3-year guarantee? OK, the 10 year guarantee on my previous Dreams bed was worthless once you read the small print (specifically doesn't cover "sag"), but 3 years guarantee on spending >£900 seems very poor. For comparison I can spec a Hypnos Premier Bedstead with Divan and headboard on mattressman with a 10 year guarantee for £978. So...
Question 1: why should I buy your bed rather than the Hypnos one? And do you have any comment on the Hypnos "6-turn" pocket springs?
Question 2: you highly recommend toppers, and having experienced the initial comfort of my previous pillow-top topper, I can appreciate the comfort, and that a removable one would extend the life of a mattress. However, part of the argument for them is economic, but your latex double topper comes in at £370, whereas the Origins mattress is only £160 more at £530. How much difference will a latex topper make to comfort and durability paired with this mattress, and is it worth it? (I really don't like bedding/pillows that retain heat hence my preference for latex).
Question 3: the base option has bonnet coil and pocket springs options - please explain the difference as can't find that detailed anywhere.
For info I am 6'3, 14st, with recurrent lower back and shoulder problems. I really really need a bed that doesn't sag in the middle.
Many thanks, Dave

Hi Dave,

Thank you for your enquiry.

We would like to respond to your questions in order and would comment as follows :-

1.Whilst our products have a lower guarantee period, we do endeavour to match the customer to the product and offer a 60 day "love it or return it" guarantee on all our products. In 96% of instances, through consultation, we get the recommendation spot on, which is why we are confident to offer this guarantee.

Our products are made to our own specification and cannot be compared to any other products on the market. You will note that the specification of the Hypnos product is very general and does not provide full details of the upholstery in terms of GSM (grams per square metre) , which ours do. We are completely transparent in providing as much information as possible to assist in the selection of a new product, but ultimately, it is up to the individual to make a choice. As far as the spring turns are concerned, we would confirm that 6 is currently the industry norm in products of the value you are looking at.

2. Mattress toppers are usually applied to provide an extra comfort layer or to soften the feel of a mattress which has become or is too firm. You will note from our site that we do not recommend pillow top mattresses for the reasons detailed in this article. Although we recommend toppers where required, we would advocate using your new mattress for at least 28 days before deciding upon whether one is necessary as if you buy at the same time, it could turn out to be an unnecessary expense.

3. The base that we would pair with our Origins products is a platform topped one. The sprung bases, bonnel or pocket springs, are paired with our Artisan range, although if you specifically wanted one of these with an Origins mattress, you could order one. In terms of comfort, there is very little between the two, although price wise the pocket sprung bases are more expensive.

Based upon your body weight we would recommend a medium spring tension/feel mattress.

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

The Origins range has a standard medium tension spring unit and has different man made upholstery dependent upon model selected. The Origins Pocket 1500 has the standard spring unit with man made upholstery providing an overall medium feel.

We trust that the above helps, but if you require any further advice or guidance, please call our office on 0161 437 4419 and speak with one of our advisors.

Kind Regards Gary
