New Vispring Herald Superb medium mattress so uncomfortable

Comment Check Icon 1 answers Comment Icon 0 comments

I had a medium Vispring Herald Supreme mattress 16 years and it was really comfy and have changed it for Herald Superb in medium and I appreciate it’s supposed to be firmer to start with but I’ve only had it 3 nights and omg it’s so uncomfortable.  It’s like a board.  Medium is the correct one for my weight but has it changed from the previous tension?  Will I have to suffer it for a while before it softens? I have contacted the company and retailer via email by no reply yet.  Three rough nights and backache isn’t good for such an expensive purchase.

Hi Sarah,

Thank you for your question. It can be difficult to adjust to a new mattress. Your previous Vispring Herald Supreme would have reached final settlement years ago and your body would have adjusted to the subtle changes that take place within the upholstery layers over the years.

You are correct that a new mattress feels firmer than intended as all the upholstery layers are compacted during manufacturing and it takes you sleeping and moving around on the mattress to soften them. The upholstery layers will settle the most during the first six months and then the settlement rate will slow down over the next few years until it reaches final settlement.

Artisan Bespoke mattress

The Herald Superb has a firm level of comfort in the upholstery layers, comparable to our Artisan Bespoke, and only has a little cushioning in the top layers. This is very similar in feel to your original mattress. Even though you found the firm level of comfort suitable for you when you first purchased this mattress, comfort preferences can change as we get older. Adding a mattress topper can provide additional comfort whilst the upholstery layers are settling. This will also protect your mattress but will slow down the settlement rate of the upholstery layers.
Spring Tension Wire diameter (Gauge) Weight Range
Soft 1.2mm Bespoke Tension (Please Call)
Medium 1.4mm Upto 16 stone
Firm 1.6mm 16 stone plus
Extra Firm / Orthopaedic 1.9mm 20 stone plus

Vispring, like ourselves, uses handmade calico pocket springs within their mattresses. The spring tension is based on the gauge of wire used to make the springs. A medium spring tension spring is made with a 1.4 mm wire and these springs support body weights up to approximately 17 stone depending on height.

I hope this helps and if you would like any further information please do not hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards

Michaela
