Hi Gavin,

Thank you for contacting us regarding the Origins Pocket 1500 with the 2000 spring unit.

When choosing a new mattress you need to ensure that not only do you receive the correct level of support which is provided by the internal spring unit but also the correct level of comfort provided by the upholstery fillings which are on top of the spring unit.

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

Because stomach sleepers require a certain level of support, a firmer mattress is often recommended. If the mattress is too soft, your torso will sink into the mattress and start arching your spine, leading to aches, pains, and avoidable back problems. This being said, if your mattress is too firm it won’t let your spine fall into its natural curve and also cause discomfort. It’s a delicate balancing act!

All of this is why a medium, medium-firm, or firm mattress is recommended. You may choose a medium mattress if you prefer a balance between comfort and support. A medium mattress may also be preferred if you sleep with a partner and they prefer a soft mattress. A firmer mattress will provide a slightly firmer feel and offer more support. As we’ve already said, firmer mattresses are also ideal for heavier sleepers.

The Origins Pocket 2000 mattress provides the sleeper with a medium level of comfort so not too soft nor too firm.   At your body weight of 18st, you do require the firmer 2000 pocket springs which will provide you with the correct support and as you are a front sleeper, the upholstery fillings will also be suitable for your sleeping position.

Origins Pocket 2000

First Layer: 300 gsm Wool. This component is blended with (nominal amount) silk to give the primary layer beneath the fabric a gloriously soft cushion.

Second Layer: 750GSM very soft Polyester. This, coupled with the layers below, brings the level of upholstery quite high. However, when compressed through tufting, these layers have medium comfort but also sufficient support from the springs.

Third Layer: 500GSM Polyester. This is the cushioning layer that acts as the dampener between the insulator layer below and the soft polyester that will follow.

Fourth Layer: One-inch foam insulator. We use a one-inch layer of HD foam directly on top of the spring unit. This cushioning foam not only protects you from the spring unit but also works with you, enabling the pocket springs to rise and fall as you move.

The stretch knit mattress side panels are machine stitched. Traditionally hand-tufted. Even though the mattress side panels are 9″ deep, the undulations caused by the abundant upholstery brings the mattress depth to a more realistic 13″.

Origins Pocket 1500 mattress on Cocktail Straw Base with Forbes Headboard

This mattress has been made to go onto a solid divan base or slatted bed frame as this type of base will not alter the overall feel of the mattress.   If you have a slatted base, please ensure that the gaps between the slats are no more than 7.5cm apart otherwise over time the mattress could form between larger gaps and affect the support within the mattress.   If the gaps are larger than 7.5cm you would need to board the base over with MDF or Hardboard.   If the gaps are less than this we would still advise adding some sort of covering over the slats to protect the underneath side of the mattress taking on the impression of those slats.   This could be either an old or cheap duvet or blanket, anything that will provide protection for the mattress.

If we are able to offer you any further information or advice, please do not hesitate to contact one of our friendly team on 0161 437 4419.

Kind regards Julie
