Origins Pocket Latex 1500 mattress vs Therapur Glacier 3800 mattress

Hi there, hoping you can provide some information on the feel / differences between your own Origins Pocket Latex 1500 and the Dream Therapur Glacier 3800, please?

My husband and I are looking to upgrade to a Super King bed (will be a slatted bed frame), and are now deep in mattress shopping.

Our current mattress has been a dream to sleep in for 10+ years - it's a one sided, non-tufted, pocket sprung mattress.. Of course, the original specs are nowhere to be found anymore, so have lost the ability to use our current mattress details as a reference point!

We have tried out a number of mattresses in stores, and have landed on a preference for Dream's Therapur Glacier 3800 mattress.

I run quite hot at night so need either latex or wool/other natural fibers etc. We have preference for latex and also to avoid tufted styles, as that's what we've been used to for so long already. Budget also comes into it - we want as good as we can get, but do not want to push too high in cost!

We're both between 90 - 95 kg, and one of us is 5'11, the other 5'10.

What is the reality of the difference or feel of these two mattresses? Are they comparable at all? We'd be potentially interested in purchasing your mattress instead of the Therapur, however not being able to try it has us a bit concerned!

Thanks, and looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

Hi Allison,

Thank you so much for contacting us regarding the Origins Pocket Latex 1500 mattress.

John Ryan By design Origins Pocket Latex 1500 on Charcoal Base

This mattress provides the sleeper with a medium to firm level of comfort however at your body weights and heights, this will be more medium overall as the lighter you are the firmer the mattress will feel and vice versa.

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

The mattresses within our Origins Range can only be made as a super king zip & link and not as a one piece mattress.    The reason for this is that the Origins mattresses are very sturdy and do not bend and because of this, a lot of deliveries were having to be returned to us because access was not possible for a one piece mattress so as a Company we made the decision to only make this size as a zip & link within that range.

When choosing a new mattress, you must always consider the level of support you require together with the level of comfort.   The internal spring unit of the mattress provides the support whereas the upholstery layers which are on top of the spring unit provide the level of comfort.

Support is dictated by body weight and height and at your body weights and heights, a medium spring tension will provide adequate support for you both.    The level of comfort required is usually based upon sleeping positions with a side sleeper requiring either soft or medium comfort, a back sleeper requires a medium comfort and a front sleeper would require something slightly firmer.

The Origins Pocket Latex 1500 contains two layers of Talalay Latex on top of 1500 spunbond pocket springs and is great for someone who does not get along with a tufted mattress as it has a very flat sleeping surface.   This mattress can only be rotated around however the fillings within this mattress are resilient and responsive so therefore is better than most one sided mattresses.   Talalay latex is much more responsive and cooler than any memory foam mattress so if you are a hot sleeper, latex is obviously better than memory foam as memory foam requires your body heat to make it respond therefore causing overheating.

The Dreams Therapur Glacier 3800 mattress which you are looking at, contains the following upholstery layers :-

  • 3164 pocket springs
  • Medium comfort grade
  • Quilted and layered with cooling ActiGel® foam
  • Bouncy PurFibre® adds comfort and support
  • Knitted ActiCool® cover is instantly cooling
  • Superior edge support increases your sleep space
  • Irresistible pillow top
  • Fully hypoallergenic finish
  • Made in the UK
  • Single-sided
  • Comes with our 100-Night Comfort Guarantee
  • Rest easy with a 10-year guarantee

The Actigel foam contained within this mattress is not as heat retentive as memory foam and will be more responsive.    The Therapur Glacier mattress is also a rotate only but is a pillowtop mattress.    The problem is that pillow-top mattresses can severely reduce the lifespan of your bed as once they compress, that’s it you’re stuck with it.   They give the impression of a sumptuous soft topper but are permanently stuck to your mattress either by glue or machine stitched on and once the topper part of the mattress settles which all mattresses will do, the rest of the mattress is not useable..

We do offer each customer a no quibble 60 day love it or return it guarantee.  All we as is that you use a mattress protector and sleep on the mattress for at least 4 weeks as it takes this length of time for your body to adjust.   If after this time you are not getting along with it, you simply telephone our friendly team and the returns process can begin.   We do offer a swap to a different mattress however in your case, the only mattress that we make which has a flat sleeping surface, if the Origins Pocket Latex 1500.

I hope the above is of assistance to you however please do not hesitate to give one of our friendly team a call on 0161 437 4419 should you require further assistance.

Kind regards Julie
