Thanks for your question about the Hypnos Premier Inn mattress. It's a mattress we've slept on and reviewed here on the site so let's take a further look at the alternatives to help you make the most suitable choice for your budget.

The Hypnos Premier Inn mattress is the mattress that they use in their hotel chain of budget conscious hotels. It's a mattress aimed at fitting the majority of sleepers (something which is very difficult to achieve). They do this by making it a one-sided mattress, so staff don't have to manhandle it every month and giving it a pillowtop to take the edge of the firmer springs for lighter sleepers.

The problem with this Hypnos mattress is settlement caused by the pillowtop. As pillowtop mattresses are one-sided, and usually the pillowtop fibres are very soft polyester they can flatten and settle very quickly. Leading to a lumpy bumpy sleeping surface. The issue with pillowtop is they cannot be removed, and the mattress cannot be turned over. So it can spell disaster for anyone needing to then address the mattresses settlement.  You can read far more on what we thought of the Hypnos Premier Inn mattress here but for that price point, you should ideally be looking for a two-sided mattress.

Alternatives to the Premier Inn Mattress:

Based on your weights I'd say you need a split tension mattress one side 1.4 gauge (Medium) pocket spring for your wife and a 1.6 gauge (Firm) spring for you. Although you're in the weight range for a firm spring you're also tall which helps distribute your weight more so it really depends on how much your weight fluctuates. The Hypnos mattress is a medium 1.4 gauge, but only sleeping on it for a few nights won't give you the most accurate feeling for its suitability. I would hazard a guess that after a few weeks at your weight it wouldn't be supportive enough and could cause discomfort in the long term.

Pocket springs are designed for weight ranges and have been unhelpfully given the prefix of soft medium or firm. This confuses most people into thinking the mattress will feel this way. This is wrong. It's the upholstery put on top that gives a mattress its true feel. Which is why it is important you know exactly what's inside the mattress. Something Hypnos don't fully disclose.

If you do opt for the firmer spring for yourself and a medium spring for your wife this can be achieved via a split tension in a zip and link. Please get back in touch for more advice on this if you are interested.
