Problems with Hypnos mattress from John Lewis

A customer asked

Hi there, I've recently bought a Hypnos mattress from John lewis with 1200 pocket springs and its double sided. Its a mix of polyester and wool. My problem is that after about two days there is a sort of dip/slight sag in the middle where I sleep. Do you think this is just settling of the mattress?

Its on a sprung slatted base, and the slats are almost 4 inches apart and its a standard single mattress. So I thought its pretty odd that its started to have a sort of hump within a few days?

Do you think the mattress springs could be pushing through the big 4 inch gap between my slats?

Also, what would be the best solution, perhaps plywood or do I really need a much better base. I look forward to hearing your response.

Hi, All mattresses are subject to settlement, the norm is 2-3cm, however, it does seem pretty unusual to occur so quickly after purchase.

The first thing to do is contact the store from which you purchased the mattress and advise them of the issue.

You should also ask what the tolerance is with that particular mattress.

The slats on your base are further apart than we would expect and in this instance, we would suggest placing some peg board or thin MDF over the slats and also try turning and rotating the mattress.

If these actions do not resolve the issue at all, go back to the store and request a replacement or refund.

I trust that this helps, if you have any further questions please call the office on 0161 437 4419

kind regards Mike.
