Problems with Vi Spring Classic Superb

A customer asked

I recently purchased a Vi-Spring Classic Superb in medium firmness purchased with the matching divan. This firmness was recommend for me based on my weight of 9.5 stone. I have been sleeping on the bed for 3 weeks and find that I wake up with sore hips and lower back. I am able to change the firmness before 90 days. Would I better off with a firm?

Thanks in advance. >

Hi Irfan,

Thank you for your question.

Personally I would have thought you would have been better off with a soft tension rather than medium - not too sure why you think going firmer would be better for you. The correct spring tension is determined by your body weights.

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

The make-up of this particular mattress is predominantly Horsetail (over 2k gsm) which although a supportive component in it's own right, coupled with the two layers of springs and taking your lightweight into consideration brings me to this conclusion.

Personally, over the next few days I would experiment with sleeping directly on your duvet to see if the additional cushioning helps, on this particular model there is only 300gsm of wool as the comfort layer which is nominal to say the least.

- if you benefit from the extra cushioning provided from your duvet (or topper if you have one) , this will lead me to believe that going firmer will be the wrong option - perhaps going softer may be more beneficial.

However, there is not much a difference between a soft and medium tension spring (I'm not sure of the gauge used by Vi Spring for their Soft and Medium gauges) but usually there is more of a difference between Medium and Firm.

For example, our Soft is in the region of 1.3mm.

Medium in the region of 1.4 and Firm going up to 1.6mm.

We would never recommend to our customer a 1.6mm spring for a bodyweight such as yours.

Please call the office on 0161 437 4419 let us know what happens over the next week or so.

John and Ryan.
