Hi, I have a single Silent Night supreme comfort Florence bed. It is very old. I would like to buy a bed of similar or better quality with a medium mattress for person under 14 stone, preferably a small double or single mattress with an ottoman base. What would you advise? My budget is less than £1000. I like a softish mattress that gives good all round support for a bad back but not a orthopaedic mattress or anything too firm. Thank you, Cecilia.

Hi Cecilia,

Thank you for your question. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find any information regarding your Silent Night Supreme Comfort Florence mattress. Most manufacturers do not supply a lot of information regarding a mattress but once it has been discontinued it is impossible to find any information.

The advice used to be that for anyone with back issues they required a firm mattress but this is not the case. The correct level of support for the person's body weight and the upholstery layers is based on how they sleep and their preferred level of comfort.

At your body weight, the medium spring tension will provide the correct level of support. We would not recommend the firm or orthopedic support as you do not weigh enough to activate the springs. If the springs are not active then they do not move with you and you would not get any support from these firmer spring tensions.

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

Given that you are looking for a softish mattress I would recommend the Origins Comfort 1000 mattress. This mattress is slightly softer than a medium level of comfort in the upholstery layers and it has a medium spring tension as standard. This mattress in a single currently retails at £620 (FEB 2024).

Unfortunately, we discontinued the Ottoman base some time ago. When researching this type of base you need to check the lifting weight to ensure it is higher than the weight of your mattress. A single Origins Comfort 1000 weighs approximately 24 kg. A platform Ottoman will provide more support for the mattress than the slatted version.

I hope this helps and if you would like any further information please do not hesitate to contact our small friendly team on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards,
Michaela
