Should I buy a divan or bedstead mattress base?
I have just purchased an ex display Marks and Spencer mattress in the sale reduced to £200 from £749.
I now need a base can you advise?
What would be more suitable a bed frame or a Divan?
.
Hi Gerry,
Thanks for getting in touch
Divan Bases versus Bed Frames is is a common question. To understand how they work with a mattress lets break it down into three points
- Bed frames usually have wooden slats to support the mattress and as long as these are no more than 3 inches apart they will provide an adequate support. We often recommend to place a sheet or old duvet over any slats to protect the underside of your mattress to prevent any splinters from the wood snagging the underside of your mattress.
Divan Bases come in two types. Platform top and Sprung divan. Both have the option to add storage underneath in either 2 or 4 drawer options.
- Platform top, is a solid flat surface to support your mattress giving an even weight distribution.
- Sprung Divans, as the name suggest have a layer of springs on top of the Divan. This can make your mattress last longer and will make the overall feel slightly softer.
Aesthetically some people prefer prefer bed frames and there are an infinite number of variations and styles out there in a whole range of different materials. The choice is up to you. We will outline our divan options below
We have a wide range of bases why not start by taking a look at our Origins Platform base.
Alternatively if you think a sprung option is more up your street have a look at our Artisan Range of bases
