Single beds
I’m want 2 single mattresses for 3 foot beds. Initially they’re for young children aged 4 but obviously they will grow. The beds are essentially for ad-hoc visits (spare room), occasionally for adults but these will be rare events. The have slat bases but understand it may be better to board at a future point.
Clearly the problem is short term v. long term.
What would you recommend please?
Hi Dale,
Thank you for your question. As children require more support whilst their bones are still growing, the medium spring tension within a standard domestic mattress would be suitable. This will also support any adults you have staying with you with body weights up to 17 stone, depending on height.

The only mattress we recommend for children is the Origins Comfort 1000, which is slightly softer than a true medium in the manmade upholstery layers. These mattresses are quite deep, approximately 30 - 33 cm, and are not suitable for bunk or cabin beds. Although we do not make mattresses specifically for children, John Lewis does have a range of mattresses that are of good quality.
You can put our mattresses onto a slatted base. Please check the space between the slats; if this is less than 3 inches, you should cover over the slats with an old or cheap duvet or blanket to protect the upholstery layers on the underside of the mattress from indentations and possible staining. If the gap is more than 3 inches, you would need to board over the slats to prevent the springs from settling in the gap, which can damage the mattress.
I hope this helps and if you would like any further information, please do not hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419.
Kind Regards
Michaela
