Sprung slats to boarding

A customer asked

I have an ottoman bed with spring slats that are causing extreme comfort issues with sagging and dipping. Would I be able to use some type of board to fix this?

Hi there,

Thank you for your enquiry.

Whilst putting a thin layer (3-5mm) of MDF over your slats will provide a uniform surface for the mattress to sit on, the issues you are experiencing may be related to your mattress rather than the base. The spring unit may not have the right tension, which is determined by your body weight(s) and the upholstery may not be correct for the level of comfort required. It could also be resulting from the age of your current mattress, which may need replacing.

Without knowledge of your current mattress, it is difficult to speculate as to the cause of the discomfort, but you could try the boarding to see if that helps.

We also have a really detailed article here on all things related to mattress bases which may help.

If you require any further advice or guidance, please call our office on 0161 437 4419 and speak with one of our advisors.

All the best

John & Ryan
