Suitability of mattress on wooden slatted frame
Hi,
Looking at your Artisan Tailored Pocket 2000 mattress. We want to retain our wooden slatted frame and want to know how that might affect the 'softness' of the mattress. I've read most of your info and deduced that it is the springs that provide the support so without a sprung divan base it could alter things. I am 13st and my wife is 10st so normally a Medium would suit. I like a soft top layer, but I guess a mattress topper would sort that out (we have one now). Would putting an old topper under the mattress help? It seems that the Pocket 2000 is already on the slightly firm side.
Your thoughts would be appreciated
Regards
Dennis
Hi Dennis,
Thanks for your question.
A wooden slatted bed base will give the mattress going on top of it a slightly firmer feel.
Our Artisan Tailored Pocket 2000 is fine to go on to that base as long as the gaps between the slats are no bigger than 3". If you measured them and found they were then you'd simply need to buy some standard sheets of MDF, plywood or pegboard to put on top of the slats and protect the mattress from indentation and damage.
You're absolutely correct that a Medium spring tension will give you the right level of support at your body weights;
Bodyweight | Spring tension |
---|---|
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg | Medium (1.4mm) |
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards | Firm (1.6mm) |
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) | Soft (1.2mm) |
The Artisan Tailored Pocket 2000 is very much a medium feeling model in the top layers giving a slight sink into that top layer but not too much. The mattress is given an ever so slightly firmer feel due to the manufactured dual layered spring system inside it.
We'd always advocate just simply using a mattress protector to begin with under our 60 day love it or return it guarantee. If, after that period, you still find it too firm then look at adding a topper at that stage from somewhere like Soak and Sleep.
I hope this has answered your questions fully but if you do have any further queries please don't hesitate to contact our office on 0161 437 4419.
Kind Regards, Lee.
