The Weight of a Premium mattress
Hi how much do your premium mattresses weigh
Can you advise to how many kilos of wool there are in your mattresses as an example hypnos mattresses have anywhere between 2-16 kilos of wool
Kind regards John
Hi John,
Thank you for placing your question via our website.
With regard to the weight of our mattresses within the Artisan Range, these differ depending on the size you require. For example, the Artisan 1500 kingsize mattress weighs approximately 50kg, the Artisan Naturals approximately 58kg and the Artisan Bespoke 004 approximately 61kg.
Customers usually require the weight of one of our mattresses in order to ensure that their bed base will take this weight. All of our bed bases can accommodate any of our models however some other Retailers bases may have an upper limit.
With regard to the wool content within our Artisan mattresses, again this will differ depending on which mattress you are looking at. The Artisan Bespoke 004 kingsize mattress contains 100% natural fibres. The total amount of wool content is approximately 7kg whereas the Artisan Luxury kingsize mattress which again contains 100% natural fibres, total amount of wool content is approximately 9.5kg.

When choosing a new mattress, it is very important that you look at the total GSM or Grams Per Square Metre of the fibres contained within the mattress as this provides a good indication of the quality. Most Bed manufacturers do not provide this information and are quite secretive about this and it is very unusual when looking in Bed shops to find this information on those mattresses. There are only a few Manufacturers who will actually provide this information such as Savior & Vi Spring together with ourselves. Please see the article provided within this response as this will provide you with the information needed to ensure that the mattress you are looking at will stand the test of time.
Mattress Buyers Guide: How to choose the right natural fibre mattress
Choosing the correct mattress can often be confusing and a bit of a minefield. A decent pocket sprung mattress needs to provide good support along with a decent amount of cushioning in order to alleviate pressure pain.
Support is dictated by body weight and height and the reason for this is that the internal spring unit has been designed to accommodate a certain weight and then react to that weight allowing compression ie: you sink in slightly to that spring unit when you get on them but they push back against you providing that support.

The overall feel of a mattress is provided by the upholstery fillings which are on top of the spring unit and this is usually dictated by your sleeping positions ie: a side sleeper requires cushioning for shoulders and hips so a comfort level of either soft or medium will suffice, a back sleepers require their spine to be kept aligned so a comfort level of overall medium and a front sleeper requires something a little firmer so that the tummy does not sink into the top layers causing an unnatural arch in their back.
In order for us to recommend which of our mattresses would suit you best, we would need to collate information from you such as body weights and heights, sleeping positions, type of mattress you are currently sleeping on together with the type of base the mattress would be going onto as this can affect the overall feel of a mattress.
It would be beneficial for you to speak with one of our friendly team so that we can assist you further with regard to our products. Please telephone the Office on 0161 437 4419.
Kind regards Julie Collier
