Vi Spring Classic Superb mattress questions

Hi John, I am really grateful for this great website with all its unbiased information you've put up. I'd like to know your opinion on the Vi Spring Classic Superb mattress. I have went through many of your posts and I wonder why this mattress is never mentioned, because of all Vi Spring mattresses it offers the most amount of horsetail hair and it is even pure and not blended with any wool, etc. From their website: ""Upholstered with 300gsm British fleece wool, then 2,135gsm loose, hand-teased, long-stranded horsetail" In comparison the the Magnificence offers just 610gsm of horsetail hair. I can see that the Classic Superb is missing a comfortable wool layer on top of the horsetail hair, so it maybe a bit more uncomfortable compared to other Vi Spring beds. But as you recommend to use a topper, anyway, wouldn't be a Vispring Heaven topper with 1200gsm wool a perfect match with the Classic Superb price-wise?

I really don't understand why Vi Spring doesn't put some wool on top of the horsehair layer and I also don't understand why they put this much horsehair into the mattress and selling it "cheap" in comparison to the Sublime Superb, Signatory and Magnificence which all don't use that much horsetail hair. Which Vi Spring beds do you recommend where you get the most for the money?

Hi Steve.

Thank you for getting in touch.

The Classic Superb as you point out seems to be missing a significant amount of comfort layer. I can't fathom why this is particularly for where it sits in the range. horsehair is an exceptional component to have but it does need to be placed beneath wool and cotton for example. Each different model is constructed specifically to provide a certain feel, adding or removing a comfort layer can change the whole model completely.

Take a look at our Artisan range. This is our Naturals fibre pocket sprung range. I suggest that you use the Artisan Naturals as a starting point and work from there. The Naturals is our most popular, unbeatable model with 85% natural fibres. Containing a huge GSM of fillings, including wool and mohair, on a Calico Pocket spring unit. This medium feel hand crafted mattress is where we stake our reputation as ‘The Mattress Specialists’. We compare this model to the Vi Spring Regal Superb, please see the detailed breakdown below;

John Ryan By Design Artisan Naturals Vi Spring Regal Superb
1 1200gsm Blended British Fleece Wool and Cotton. 900gsm Blended real Shetland Isle Fleece Wool and Cotton
2 Hairproof Cambric Cover Hairproof Cambric Cover
3 1250gsm Rebound Poly Cotton 1200gsm long stranded Horsetail blended with British Fleece Wool
4 1500gsm 100% Pure Mohair 1000gsm Bonded British Fleece Wool and Cotton
5 1600 Calico encased Pocket Springs [ 49mm ] [1.28mm ] 1720 Calico encased Pocket Springs [48mm ] [1.28mm ]
Total GSM 3950gsm 3100gsm

The models in the Artisan range can be paired with either a soft, medium or a firm spring tension to support an individuals body weight. The correct spring tension is determined by the individuals body weight;

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

Kind regards,
Amy.
