A customer asked

Hi , we like the Visprung Herald with a medium and a firm side when we tried in the shop. However the mattress was on a sprung divan , we would be using a bedstead with slatted base and plywood covering that. I understand the Artisan Bespoke is similar. What levels of firmness would you recommend if one of us is 15st and the other 11 stone? Thank you.

Hi Pauline,

Thank you for your enquiry via our website.  You are quite right in thinking that the Artisan Bespoke mattress feels very similar to the Vi-spring Herald you tried and liked. As you are going to be using a slatted bedstead, we say you only need to cover the slats with plywood or MDF, if the gaps between the slats are more than 3" apart, if not you could just place an old, or cheap duvet on top of the slats, to create a layer of protection, and stop some of the indentations that would be created by the gaps in the slats.

One thing to note is that any type of base, other than a sprung divan, will give a mattress a firmer feel in the spring tension within the mattress. I have noted in your second comment, that you had mistakenly said the tensions you preferred were firm and medium when actually they were soft and medium, these are the correct tensions for your body weights.

Please call the office on 0161 437 4419 if you require any more information.

Kind Regards Gary
